Looking to Rwanda's
Future
In 2008, Infancy International
expanded its reach to Rwanda. There, we proposed an
initiative to teach local leaders and childcare center
supervisors how to optimize infant development, safety and
parenting support. In many families, older sisters are
responsible for the care of the infants. Some households
are completely run by older siblings when parents die, become
ill or seek migrant work. With extended families
stretched to the limits and often far away, many of these
children are left alone to fend for their land and survival.
Infancy International hopes to come alongside existing
community programs where adult mentors oversee "child-led"
families to support the nation's children who are raising
children. |
